Today the ROBBIATI GROUP is a sold business enterprise, well developed and diversified in two specific production sectors:
  • CONSTRUCTION
  • STEEL PRODUCTION
The two companies in the steel sector operate in a covered area measuring 40,000 m2, with annual production of approximately 50,000 tons of sheet metal enriched in various ways. The registered trademark "PLALAM" has set the product apart quality-wise for decades on both the domestic and international markets. The roots of the ROBBIATI GROUP date back to the 1930’s, in Bernareggio, a town that grew up in the northeast portion of the greater Milan area.

Here, in the 1920’s, founder Pasquale Robbiati began working with wood, turning out products specifically designed for the construction of high-quality frames and fixtures, as part of the design trends followed by the great architects of the day. Interpreting the impulse towards innovation in post-war Italy, his son Dante developed and produce, under his own patents, windows, doors, mobile walls and prefabricated components for construction, expanding the scope of his father’s activities and bringing into bringing into being the present-day ROBBIATI PREFABBRICATI S.r.l.

The innovative ideas, construction skills and experience gained in the construction industry made it possible for Dante Robbiati to invent and manufacture a new product that is used today throughout the world: "PLALAM", a steel or aluminium laminate lined with polyvinyl chloride on one or both sides. The invention led to the founding of MANIFATTURA DI BERNAREGGIO S.p.A. for the production of rolled sheets in PVC and of the "PLALAM", whose continued development, in response to the most innovative technical characteristics, resulted in a brand-new bimetallic co-laminate of steel, plastic and copper entitled "PLALAMRAME".

It was these successful products that led, in the 1970’s, to the foundation of the Group’s most important company: PLALAM S.p.A. of Ascoli Piceno, equipped with a modern coil-coating painting line for metallic laminates. In the 1980’s, the full computerisation and automation of the plant made it possible to obtain a certified product (ISO 9002), as well as an increase in the Group’s production and quality potential.

Later a new, fully automated electric-galvanisation line was placed in operation, capable of preparing and protecting steel laminates or subsequent coating with paints or plastics. The resulting product is currently used in a surprisingly wide variety of uses, having made a significant contribution to the works of designers and architects in the 1990’s.
